Insert or Overwrite or Append Dictation

Quikscribe Recorder records in three modes:  Overwrite, Insert and Append. In Overwrite mode dictation will overwrite existing content from the current position in the recording. In Insert mode recording will be inserted between existing content. In Append mode recording will always be appended to the end of the audio file, no matter where the position for recording is located.  In Append mode if you rewind and review the existing recording, then start dictating, the position pointer will move to the end of the existing file and commence recording at that point There are three ways to change recording modes.  You must start a dictation to move among recording modes. 1.  Press the Insert key on your keyboard, which will move the recording modes through Overwrite, Insert, and Append. 2.  Select Edit from the top menu and then select Overwrite, Insert, or Append Mode. 3.  Set a button on your Hand Control to be Recording Mode.  Then press the button on the …

Display Quikscribe icons on task bar

Windows 7, 8 and 10 use a dynamic graphical icon for applications in the task bar, so QS Recorder can’t display the Record/Rewind/Play/FF actions in the task bar when the application is minimized. However, the system tray (on the right side of the bottom task bar) can display those functions if you pin the QSR icon to the bottom line using these steps: 1.  Click the arrow in the system tray to display all the applications running in the system tray. 2.  Select Customize. 3.  Find the icon for QSR.exe in the list. Change the associated Behavior for QSR.exe to Show icon and notifications. Select Ok. The QSR icon will then display in the system tray area of the bottom task bar, and the icon will change display according to the action used in QSR (Record, Play, Rewind, FF). Video Explanation 4. Hard Disk Maintenance

The Quikscribe programs rely on the health of the PC’s hard disk drive, as the audio files are generally larger in size than other file types, such as word-processing documents. With the passage of time, the hard disk drive often becomes corrupted with its table entries.  Periodic cleanup of these internal entries will reduce the chance of performance problems with Quikscribe (and other programs). To run the Windows “Check Disk” Utility: In My Computer, select the C: drive and right-click, then select Properties. Select the Tools tab, then Check Now. Select the following options Automatically fix file system errors Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sector. Then select Start.
